Albert Paley

Albert Paley is the first metal sculptor to receive the prestigious Institute Honors Award from the American institute of Architects (AIA), the highest award given by the AIA to a non-architect.  Paley received both his BFA and MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and currently holds the Charlotte Fredericks Mowris Endowed Chair at the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Paley was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Craft Council in 1994 and recently received the Master of the Medium Award.  His first, and what remains his most famous major commission, the portal gates of the Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., was completed in 1974.  Since that time he has made architectural sculptures for museums and private clients worldwide, including the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, Naples, FL, the Reading Terminal Convention Center, Philadelphia, and Yale University Art Gallery.
