Nzinga Ceremonial Objects - Medicine Belt Series Warrior Healer at Sunrise
The Studio Jenny Sabrina and Jenny

Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles have been collaborating since meeting in 1992 at Pilchuck Glass School, where both studied and worked. Profoundly inspired by a travel study to Zimbabwe and Botswana in 1997 and subsequent expeditions to Ghana in 2000 and Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and East Africa in 2002, Pohlman and Knowles have brought to life and paid homage to the stories, people and traditions that so deeply impact their work emotionally and creatively. They use a variety of materials in their rich assemblages, including off-hand sculpted glass, various metal works, found objects and beads.

"Knowles and Pohlman's collaborative creations result in a presentation of work that is original, harmonious and compelling, and which is at the same time intriguing and accessible for a widely divergent audience. And yes, these sculptures are sensual too, attracting the viewer with beautiful soft surfaces of sandblasted glass, and undulating forms, with a chromatic vocabulary articulating the humbleness of natural materials, with embellishments of glass, and metal, and fiber, and pods, and shells, and found objects - some common, some not. These sculptural works by Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman emphatically celebrate life's complex journey, while honoring, respecting and ultimately illumination for all of us the spirituality and beauty inherent in great cultures past and present." Margery Aronson, Seattle WA (2001)
